Red Mass - Feb. 26, 2006

Please join us for one of the Society's greatest traditions, the Annual Red Mass. The festivities begin with Mass at 9:30am on Sunday, February 26, 2006 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, with brunch and program to follow at the Milwaukee Athletic Club.

This year's program will feature an address by George E. Garvey, Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies at Catholic University of America, and the presentation of the STMS Faithful Servant Award to Daniel E. Meehan, Founder and CEO, Meehan Family Foundation.

Bioethics Conference at St. Francis Seminary on April 1, 2006

The Society is would like to briefly announce the 2nd Annual Bioethics Conference which will be held at St. Francis Seminary on Saturday afternoon, April 1, 2006. This interesting and thought-provoking program should be of interest to all Catholic lawyers and others who respect life from conception to natural death.

The conference is sponsored by: the Milwaukee Guild of the Catholic Medical Association and the Catholic Physicians’ Guild of Chicago (with support from other guilds Central Wisconsin, Chippewa Valley, LaCrosse* and Green Bay*). Additional support provided by the Marquette University Institute for Natural Family Planning, Marquette University Faculty for Life, and Columbia St. Mary’s.

Federalist Society presents "The Legacy of the Rehnquist Court" - February 23

Milwaukee Public Museum features Vatican exhibit

The Milwaukee Public Museum is touting its newest addition, a traveling collection entitied “Saint Peter and the Vatican: The Legacy of the Popes”. Be sure to see it and support MPM for having brought this treasure to Milwaukee.

The exhibition consists of 12 galleries, developed along six themes:

- Reproduction of the Tomb of St. Peter;
- Building of the Basilicas, the Sistine Chapel;
- Papal Liturgies;
- Into the World;
- Recent Papal History and;
- Into the New Millennium.

Feb. 3 - First Friday - Dr. Susan Mountin - Dorothy Day and the Pros & Cons of Canonization

The St. Thomas More Lawyers Society of Wisconsin First Friday Group will meet this Friday, February 3, 2006.

Susan Mountin, Assistant Adjunct Professor of Theology and Director of the Manresa Project at Marquette University, will speak on the topic "Dorothy Day, Founder of the Catholic Worker Movement and American Icon, the Pros and Cons of Canonization". Dr. Mountin teaches a course on the Theology of Dorothy Day at Marquette.

As always, Mass will begin at 7:30 A.M. in the Chapel of the Holy Family located on the 2nd floor of the Marquette Memorial Union (15th and Wells) and will include the Blessing of the Throats. Mass will be followed by a presentation and discussion from 8:00 - 9:00 A.M. over a continental breakfast (suggested donation $4.00) in Room 305 of the same building. Parking is available on Wells Street or in one of the nearby campus lots.
